Cottonwood Falls Kansas attorney Chris Ambrose provides personal, business, criminal defense and nonprofit church legal services

Meet Chris Ambrose.

Chris Ambrose is the founding attorney of Harvest Legal and a rural Kansas lawyer by choice. Raised in small towns and rural communities, Chris knew early on that he wanted to build both his career and his life in the heart of America. That calling ultimately led him and his wife to the Flint Hills, where they chose to return after law school and put down roots.

Chris is a lawyer — but he’s also a neighbor. He lives, works, shops, attends church, and serves locally, just like the clients and communities Harvest Legal represents. His practice is grounded in the belief that rural communities deserve high-quality legal services and long-term investment, not fly-in, fly-out representation.

Education & Legal Background

Chris earned both his undergraduate degree and Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri–Kansas City, where he was actively involved in student leadership and advocacy. During law school, he:

  • Competed on the Jessup International Law Moot Court team

  • Served as Managing Director of the UMKC Federalist Society

  • Served as Vice President of UMKC’s chapter of the National Republican Lawyers Association

Chris also gained hands-on legal experience through internships with:

  • The Missouri State Public Defender System

  • A small law firm in Lee’s Summit, Missouri

  • The Death Penalty Litigation Clinic

  • Kansas Legal Services in Emporia

This early exposure shaped his commitment to fair access to legal representation, particularly for individuals navigating the criminal justice system. As part of his practice, Chris continues to accept court-appointed cases, ensuring access to counsel in rural Kansas communities.

Agriculture, Rural Life & Community Commitment

With a strong interest in agriculture, Chris has completed agribusiness coursework at Kansas State University and maintains close ties to farming life (including time spent helping on his family’s farm). These experiences inform his understanding of rural land use, business, and community dynamics — realities that often intersect with legal issues in rural Kansas.

Chris is proud to practice law in the Flint Hills and is deeply committed to growing Harvest Legal in a way that serves the region well for the long term. He is a passionate advocate for rural legal practice and enjoys mentoring law students, clerks, and future lawyers who are curious about building meaningful careers outside major metropolitan areas.

If you’re a future lawyer interested in rural practice, Chris welcomes the conversation — and Harvest Legal is always interested in meeting people who share that vision.

Life Outside the Office

Chris has been married to his wife, Jacque, since 2012, and they homeschool their four children. Their family is active at Flint Hills Bible Church, particularly in children’s ministry, and they remain involved in local nonprofit and community work. Chris currently serves on the board of SOS, Inc. and volunteers with Radical Life, Inc.

When time allows, Chris enjoys endurance sports such as gravel cycling, rucking, and running; shooting sports; building computers; playing board games with his kids; keeping an eye on fast cars he doesn’t yet own; and cheering on the Wildcats, Chiefs, and Royals.
